Surveillance devices reports

We oversee the use of surveillance devices by Victorian law enforcement agencies to obtain evidence or information relating to a Commonwealth or State offence.

Under the Surveillance Devices Act 1999 we provide independent oversight of the use of surveillance devices by the following 7 bodies, that can apply to the courts for warrants to use optical, listening, tracking and data surveillance devices:

  • Victoria Police
  • IBAC
  • Victorian Fisheries Authority
  • Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action
  • Games Management Authority
  • Environment Protection Authority
  • Office of the Special Investigator.

We conduct inspections of each body’s records. Our findings are presented in biannual reports that are provided to the responsible Minister and each House of Parliament.

Accessibility

Before a document, like a report, can be made public it must first be provided to Parliament as a pdf for 'tabling'.

If you require a more accessible format of any published report, please call the Victorian Inspectorate on 1800 518 197 or email communications@vicinspectorate.vic.gov.au .

If you are deaf and/or find it hard hearing or speaking with people who use a phone, the National Relay Service can help. Contact the National Relay Service on 133 677 or visit their website for more information.
