Surveillance devices reports by the Victorian Inspectorate

We oversee the use of surveillance devices by Victorian law enforcement agencies to obtain evidence or information relating to a Commonwealth or State offence.

Under the Surveillance Devices Act 1999External Link we provide independent oversight of the use of surveillance devices by the following 7 bodies, that can apply to the courts for warrants to use optical, listening, tracking and data surveillance devices:

  • Victoria Police
  • IBAC
  • Victorian Fisheries Authority
  • Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action
  • Games Management Authority
  • Environment Protection Authority
  • Office of the Special Investigator.

We conduct inspections of each body’s records. Our findings are presented in biannual reports that are provided to the responsible Minister and each House of Parliament.
